Data & permissions
Effective: June 3, 2026 · Last updated: June 3, 2026
This page is a plain-language, at-a-glance companion to the Finance Codex Privacy Policy and AI Policy. It summarises the device permissions the app may request, the data it collects, and the choices you have. The Privacy Policy is the authoritative document; this page does not change or replace it.
Operator: Codex Labs, a Codex Corp company, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Privacy contact: privacy@codexcorp.ca.
The short version: Finance Codex is a manual money-tracking tool. We never connect to your bank, we never ask for your banking credentials or card numbers, and we do not request access to your camera, microphone, or location. You enter every figure yourself.
Device permissions
Finance Codex requests only the permissions it genuinely needs. The table below describes each permission category, when it comes up, and whether it is required to use the app.
| Permission | When it is requested | Required? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notifications | When you enable reminders in the app | Optional | To send reminders to log transactions or review your budgets. |
| Files / Storage | When you export your data | Optional | To save a copy of your exported data to your device. |
| Camera | Not requested | Not requested | Finance Codex does not use your camera. |
| Microphone | Not requested | Not requested | Finance Codex does not use your microphone. |
| Location | Not requested | Not requested | Finance Codex does not collect or use your location. |
| Bank / financial-account access | Not requested | Not requested | The app never connects to your bank. You enter all financial data manually; we have no integration with any financial institution. |
The exact wording of OS permission prompts may vary by device model, operating system version, and region. You can grant, deny, or change any permission at any time in your device's Settings app.
Data the app collects
For full details, see the Privacy Policy. In summary, Finance Codex collects:
- Account information — your email address, optional display name, and the authentication data needed to secure your account. Sign-in options include email and password, multi-factor authentication (MFA), passkeys, and Google sign-in. We do not store your password in plain text and we do not receive your Google password.
- User-entered financial data — the transactions, amounts, categories, notes, budgets, recurring ledgers, account balances, debts, savings, and investment entries that you type into the app. This data exists because you create it; we do not pull it from anywhere.
- Usage and device information — basic diagnostic data such as device type, operating system version, app version, and crash reports, used to keep the app stable.
What we never collect: We do not collect online banking logins, card numbers, or any credentials issued by a financial institution. We have no connection to your bank or any financial institution — there is nothing to link to, because all financial data is entered manually by you.
On the web
This marketing website and landing page — the pages you are browsing right now — collect aggregate visitor analytics through Google Analytics. Analytics data is not linked to your financial records inside the app. The site also stores your light or dark theme preference in your browser's local storage; that preference never leaves your device. This website requests no device permissions.
AI features and your data
When you type transactions in natural language, the text is sent to AI providers so the app can interpret it, suggest a category, and generate summaries and insights. Our AI Policy explains exactly what is sent, how it is used, the limits of automated output, and how to reduce your use of AI features if you prefer. AI-generated output is informational only — it is never financial advice.
Your choices and controls
- Permissions — grant or revoke any permission at any time in your device's Settings app.
- Data export — export all your financial data directly from within the app at any time.
- Account deletion — delete your account and personal data from within the app. We will delete or de-identify your data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
- Contact us — to access, correct, or request deletion of your data, email privacy@codexcorp.ca.
